Sharing Documents with Your Practice

How it works
Two ways your practice can read a document:
- You upload with
tax_documenttype — these are designed for tax season and are practice-readable by default (assuming you've accepted an invitation from a practice). - You toggle
practice_visibleon a specific document — works for any document type. Default off; opt-in only.
Combined with practice RLS, your practice sees only the documents you've explicitly opted in.
What stays private
Unless you've toggled them visible:
- Insurance policies
- Liability statements
- Investment PDS / member statements
- Wills / EPOAs
- Trust deeds
- Building contracts
- Anything else
These remain owner-only — your practice can't see them even if they have access to your transactional data.
Doc tags
When you toggle visibility, you can also set a free-text doc_tag (e.g. "PAYG summary", "rental statement", "investment income"). This helps your practitioner's UI group documents sensibly when they're scanning your doc list.
How your practitioner sees them
In the practice surface, every active client has a documents view that lists everything you've made visible (sorted newest-first). The practitioner can download, view metadata, and reference the doc but can't modify or delete it.
Pulling consent
Toggling practice_visible = false immediately removes the document from your practice's view. If you remove your practice invitation altogether, all visibility ends regardless of per-document toggles.
