Scanning Receipts
Finance Frank can extract transaction details from a photo of a receipt using AI-powered OCR (optical character recognition). Instead of manually entering amounts, dates, and merchant names, snap a photo and let Frank do the work.
How It Works
- Go to Money > Transactions and click + Add Transaction
- In the transaction form, click Attach Receipt and select a photo (PNG or JPG, max 5 MB)
- Click the Scan Receipt (OCR) button that appears
- Frank uses AI vision to read the receipt and extract:
- Amount — the total or subtotal
- Date — the transaction date
- Description — the merchant or store name
- Category — auto-matched to your existing categories
- Merchant — the business name
- The extracted fields are pre-filled into the form — review and edit if needed, then save
Tips
- For best results, take a clear, well-lit photo of the full receipt
- Crumpled or faded receipts may produce less accurate results
- You can always edit any field before saving — the OCR is a starting point, not a commitment
- Receipts are stored as attachments on the transaction for EOFY records
Supported Formats
- JPEG / JPG
- PNG
- Maximum file size: 5 MB
