Custom Column Mapping

Not all bank CSVs use the same column names. Finance Frank's column mapping tool lets you import statements from any bank, even if the columns are named differently.

How It Works

  1. Go to Money > Transactions and click Import CSV
  2. Select your CSV file
  3. Frank checks the column headers:
    • If they match standard names (Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit) — the import proceeds automatically
    • If not — a Column Mapping step appears
  4. In the mapping step, use the dropdown selectors to tell Frank which columns contain:
    • Date — the transaction date
    • Description — the transaction description or narrative
    • Amount — a single amount column, OR
    • Debit / Credit — separate debit and credit columns
  5. A preview table shows the first 3 rows so you can verify the mapping looks correct
  6. Click Confirm to parse the full file with your chosen mapping

Tips

  • You only need to map the columns once per file format — the same bank's CSVs usually have consistent headers
  • If your bank uses separate Debit and Credit columns, map both instead of a single Amount column
  • The preview table lets you catch mistakes before importing the full file
